When and where is the next 2022 event?  The Southport Classic and Speed will take place at Victoria Park, Southport, Merseyside, PR8 1RX, Sunday 11th September, 2022.

What can I expect at the Southport Classic and Speed?

S outhport Classic and Speed 2022 builds on the great success of 2021 and will once again celebrate our motoring and motorsport heritage. We are delighted to celebrate the historic Grand Prix's that took place at our motor racing circuit at Aintree, which remains the UK's only purpose-built Grand Prix Track. This year marks the 65th anniversary of one of the most important races ever to take place in this country, the 1957 Grand Prix de Europe held in July. This marked a groundbreaking milestone in our motor racing providence and history when Stirling Moss and Tony Brooks became the first British Drivers, driving a British car, the Vanwall, to win the British Grand Prix. The Vanwall featured a Colin Chapman designed chassis with the aerodynamic body designed by Frank Costin (brother of Cosworth founder, Mike). This was the turning point in the success of British Formula 1 racing teams with Vanwall going on to set another precedent the following year by becoming the first British Team to win the Formula 1 Constructors World Championship. It is fair to say, since then, we have never looked back. We are also celebrating the 60th anniversary of the 1962 British Grand Prix, held again at Aintree in July of that year. This was won by Jim Clark in the groundbreaking, Colin Chapman designed, Lotus 25 Formula 1 car which established the use of a monocoque chassis design, the principles of which are still used to this day for most racing car designs. In a reflection of 1957, Clark and Lotus went on to win the 1963 Formula 1 World Drivers and Constructors Championships, another "first" for a British Team. We shall also be celebrating The Queens Platinum Jubilee and inviting entries of iconic cars and motorcycles, showcasing 70 years of automotive development and innovation. From Bentley's to BMW's, Morris's to Maserati's and Volkswagen's to Vulcan's! All exhibits will be curated following registration by entrants. Vulcans? Yes, another celebration. Last year, visitors will recall we themed the event around the 1903 Southport Speed trials and the cars that participated, particularly the exploits of Miss Dorothy Levitt and her Gladiator Motor Car. This year marks the 120th anniversary of the founding of The Vulcan Motor and Engineering Company Ltd in Southport in 1902. The anniversary will be celebrated with a special display of Vulcan Motor Vehicles as well as associated memorabilia and artifacts associated with the marquee, which will be located in a special marquee. Other Veteran and Vintage Motor vehicles will also be invited to exhibit. ***Additional attractions are in development and will be announced once confirmed*** Finally, following consultation with participants, we are delighted to announce the launch of the Southport Speed Club. This will be an exclusive hospitality facility provided for vehicle entrants, their guests and friends. Access to the Club will be by purchase of a per person pass, which will provide all day access and refreshments with breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea plus a cash bar. This year's event will open at 10am with the Parade starting earlier at approximately 3pm. All timings subject to change.
